Lee grew up in the town of Leucadia, a town mentioned in Parahamsa Yoganada’s Autobiography of a Yogi. He decided to move his home ashram here in part because all of the street names had the names of gods. Lee’s home street was Hermes Avenue. Hermes is also the god Mercury, and the founder of astrology.

Leucadia was a beach town and very rural, so Lee had chickens, goats and pigs as a kid, and spent most of his formative years either diving or body surfing or in the back country hiking and hunting reptiles as pets.

Lee as a teen was unusual for not growing up with television as almost every other kid did, and he had parents who were inveterate readers and valued constant learning. He was in high school during the late ’60’s when a massive opening was happening in Western Culture, driven in large part by the use of psychedelics. As Lee was the kind of kid who would sit on a steep ocean bluff and contemplate life and death, he intuitively knew the LSD was a mortal danger to him at that age, and yet he was profoundly influenced by the gurus of the psychedelic age, Timothy Leary, Alan Watts, John Lilly and Aldous Huxley.

It was Alan Watts that began the greatest revolution in Lee, by introducing him to Zen and the Tao Te Ching. The Tao Te Ching is something that has remained important his entire life, as has Chi Gung which comes from Taoism, and Lee practices Internal Chi Gung along with his other meditations.

Before he was even out of high school he would hitchhike 20 miles to participate in a Gestalt therapy group where he was ten years older than any other member. This led to a lifetime of psychotherapy with Jungian dream work, Bioenergetics, Rebirthing, Primal Therapy, years of 12 step groups to help him recover from a dysfunctional childhood, years of men’s groups and finally to Stanislof Grof and Holotropic Breathwork, which he certified as a practitioner in. Along with this was ten years of psychedelic therapy. In other words, Lee loves to go DEEP and to the source…..

After 20 years of this kind of therapy and meditation, he was at last led to his greatest teacher and Guru, Mata Amritanandamayi, or Amma, or The Hugging Saint. All other sources of wisdom in Lee’s life pale in comparison to Amma, who is certainly one of the greatest humans to ever have graced this Earth.

At the same time all of this was happening, Lee first trained in 4 years of Karate and then was a prime student of the first woman aikido sensei in North America for 21 years, Gayle Fillman. He has run his own aikido dojo for 21 years and has trained in aikido for 31 years. Aikido has the same aim as both yoga, Taoism, and astrology, namely, harmony with the Universe. A River of Love and Grace is flowing to us, in us, around us, and through us, if only we know or can learn to access its flow. Kabir put it this way, “I laugh, when I hear that the fish is thirsty!”. Well this Pisces fish, Lee Davis, has been thirsty his entire life.

Lee was trained for 4 years by another great woman teacher, Jean Shen, in traditional Chinese painting, and he used this to become a professional artist and craftsman. For 25 years he sold his work at top art and craft fairs nationwide. He also has been a serious gardener, growing much to most of his and his family’s food for over half a century.

Lee has one daughter and two grand daughters. His daughter April Grace is a Occupational Therapist for children under two. She graduated from Berkeley with a psychology degree, and one time said, “how can I not become a psychologist after growing up in your house?”.

Lee Davis has been an active student and practitioner of astrology for 35 years, integrating both Western and Vedic astrology. He has practiced martial arts for 35 years as well, and has been an aikido sensei for over 20 years in his own dojo in Willits, California. He has been a serious gardener practicing cutting-edge organic technologies for 54 year. He is a graduate of Holotropic Breathwork and is a long time student of Dr. Stanislof Grof, M.D.. He isa lifelong Asian artist and has won numerous awards for his distinctive and original artwork nationwide. Above all, he is a devoted follower of the brilliant incarnation of The Divine Mother, Amma, or The Hugging Saint.
